The brief

A Vermont home on the Whale Coast wanted a bright, all-white louvre system that would disappear into the coastal architecture and stand up to sea-front exposure.

The build

A full-white aluminium louvre system with white frame and white blades, built to marine-grade specification for the Whale Coast's salt air. Adjustable blades with an integrated gutter system.

The result

Open, the white blades keep the space light and airy; closed, they seal it against coastal wind and rain. All-aluminium, so no corrosion this close to the sea.

A Vermont system built to disappear

Disappearing was the design goal in Vermont. The owner wanted the louvre system to fade into the white coastal architecture rather than announce itself, so frame and blades run the same white throughout, and the gutter is integrated into the structure instead of hung off it as an afterthought.

Sea-front exposure on the Whale Coast settled the material before the colour. This close to the water, coated steel eventually streaks rust no matter how careful the paintwork, so the system is all aluminium, built to marine-grade specification. The blades still do the everyday louvre work: open for light and air, sealed against the weather that comes off the sea through a Vermont winter.
