The brief

A West Beach home wanted a clean, low-maintenance cover over the patio. It needed to be adjustable enough to open for sun and close when the weather turns, and finished to sit with the house rather than stand out.

The build

An aluminium louvre awning finished all-white, with white frame and white blades, wall-attached and carried on slim aluminium posts over the patio. Manual rotating blades open for light and air, or angle and close to shed rain. Everything is built in marine-grade aluminium with coastal-grade fixings for the sea air.

The result

A bright, sheltered space that looks built-in. Open, the blades let the sun through; closed, they keep the patio dry. With no steel and no timber there's nothing to maintain, just a cover that works right through the Cape's seasons.

Manual and marine-grade at West Beach

Everything on this one got chosen with salt in mind. West Beach sits close enough to the Atlantic that ordinary fixings don't last, so the awning is marine-grade aluminium throughout with coastal-grade fixings tying it to the wall and posts. With no steel and no timber in the build there's nothing to rust and nothing to rot, which on this coastline is most of the argument.

The remaining decisions follow the same low-upkeep logic. Manual rotating blades keep the mechanism simple, with no electronics mounted outside in sea air. And all-white is as practical as it is tidy: the awning sits quietly against the house, the patio stays bright under closed blades, and a coastal structure in white comes clean with a hose rather than a repaint.
