The brief

A Table View home had glazed in a patio with stacking doors to make a garden room, and wanted a roof that could open to the sky in good weather and seal up at the touch of a button when the West Coast wind turned.

The build

An automated all-white aluminium louvre roof over the enclosed glass room, with white frame and white blades, motorised so the whole roof opens and closes on demand. Set above the glass stacking doors so the room reads as a true indoor-outdoor space. White finishes keep the interior bright.

The result

A glass garden room that becomes an open-air courtyard in seconds. Open, the dining and braai space sits under the sky; closed, the louvres seal it against wind and rain. Motorised control means it adapts to fast-changing Table View weather without anyone leaving their seat.

Opening the roof over Table View glass

The glazing was already in when we got to the roof question. With stacking doors enclosing the patio, a fixed roof would have finished the space off as a plain sunroom. An automated louvre roof keeps it open in both directions: sealed, a weatherproof garden room; open, a courtyard sitting under sky.

Automation pays for itself in Table View, where the south-easter can pick up mid-afternoon and nobody wants to crank a winding rod while wind funnels through open doors. One press seals the roof from wherever the remote happens to be. White frame and white blades keep the interior bright, which counts double when the walls are glass and the only solid element is overhead.
