The brief

This Stellenbosch home wanted a large, robust pergola to span a generous outdoor living area. It had to be strong enough for the span, but warm and low-maintenance rather than industrial or cold.

The build

The structure is built on a steel H-beam frame for maximum span and rigidity, then finished with Lifespan composite for a warm, timber-look surface that needs no sanding, sealing or painting. It pairs real structural strength with a natural finish suited to a Winelands estate home.

A bold, large-span pergola that frames the outdoor living area. It combines the strength of a steel structure with the warmth of composite, and effectively zero upkeep year to year.

Span settled the material question before anything else.
