Composite pergola in Mossel Bay.

The brief

This Mossel Bay home wanted the natural, timber look of a wooden pergola over its outdoor living area, but without the constant sanding, sealing and oiling that real timber needs on the Garden Route coast.

The build

We built a composite pergola using composite-coated beams with a natural wood-grain finish on powder-coated aluminium posts and carriers. It reads as timber but won't rot, warp or fade, and never needs painting or sealing.

The result

A warm, wood-look pergola that suits the relaxed Garden Route setting and stays looking new through the coastal weather, with very low maintenance.

Mossel Bay without the sanding

Ask anyone who has owned a wooden pergola on this coast what late winter looks like: sanding and resealing, every single year. The owners of this Mossel Bay home skipped that ritual. The beams here are composite with a real wood grain, carried on powder-coated aluminium posts, so the outdoor living area gets the timber warmth they wanted without the maintenance calendar.

Day to day the difference is what doesn't happen. The Garden Route sun doesn't fade the finish, the sea air doesn't lift it, and the beams don't warp or rot the way stained pine eventually does. The space under the pergola stays the relaxed, warm-toned spot it was built to be, and the most attention it ever needs is a hose-down.
