This Blouberg home needed a permanent, fully weatherproof cover for its patio, something to close the space off from the wind-driven rain and salt air of the coastline while keeping a clean, finished look from below.
We built a fully enclosed aluminium patio ceiling: a charcoal powder-coated frame carrying 200mm white aluminium ceiling panels, with an integrated box gutter and concealed downpipes carrying water away. The charcoal-and-white contrast keeps it crisp against the house.
From below the ceiling reads as a smooth, flat extension of the home. No exposed beams, no industrial look. It's fully weatherproof and, built in marine-grade aluminium, sized for the exposure this stretch of coast sees.
Where the louvre roof suits owners who want options, this Blouberg client wanted the opposite: a patio closed off for good against what the coastline throws at it. A fixed aluminium ceiling gives that. The 200mm white panels lock together into one solid surface, so wind-driven rain has no blade gaps to find and salt-laden gusts pass over rather than through.
Water management on a flat-looking ceiling takes some care. The box gutter is part of the structure, and the downpipes are concealed, so a hard squall off the bay drains away without anything showing on the fascia. Charcoal framing keeps the perimeter crisp against the white, and marine-grade aluminium shrugs off the sea air that eats mild steel along this coast.
