The brief

A Blouberg patio exposed to the bay needed adjustable cover that could handle constant wind and the occasional hard downpour.

The build

An aluminium louvre roof in a charcoal frame with white blades, engineered for the Blouberg wind and built entirely in marine-grade aluminium with stainless fasteners.

The result

The owner controls sun, shade and shelter by adjusting the blades; closed, the roof seals the patio against wind-driven rain coming off the bay.

Engineered for the Blouberg southeaster

Wind drives everything on a Blouberg job. The southeaster works this stretch of the bay for most of the summer, so the frame and blades were engineered for that load rather than for a sheltered suburb, and every fastener in the structure is stainless. Wind and salt travel together here; you build for both or the cover doesn't last.

The blades earn their place daily. Angled a few degrees, they cut the glare coming off the water in the afternoon while still letting air move through the patio. Closed, they seal the space against rain that arrives sideways off the bay rather than falling from above. White blades keep it bright inside all of that.
