The brief

A Camps Bay home with a glass-balustraded terrace needed a generous cover that stayed bright and didn't fight the sea-and-sky palette, over a span wide enough to need more than one bay.

The build

A multi-bay all-white aluminium louvre roof, white frame and white blades, carried across several beams to cover the full terrace. Because Camps Bay sits on the Atlantic front line, the system is built to marine-grade specification: marine-grade aluminium, baked finishes and stainless fasteners, with no ferrous metal anywhere in the structure.

The result

Open, the white blades wash the terrace in soft light and keep it feeling like part of the sky; closed, they give a near-watertight cover against the south-easter and winter rain. The marine-grade build is the only specification appropriate this close to the sea.

Nothing ferrous on the Camps Bay terrace

Front-line Atlantic exposure narrows the options fast. Anything roofing a Camps Bay terrace lives in salt spray, so the first specification question is material, and only after that comes colour. This system contains no ferrous metal anywhere: marine-grade aluminium with baked finishes and stainless fasteners down to the smallest fixing.

Colour still mattered, and white won for the same reason the balustrades are glass. Over a span wide enough to need multiple bays, an all-white roof keeps the cover reading as sky rather than ceiling, and nothing gets between the terrace and the sea it faces. A charcoal frame across this width would have sat heavy over the view.
